Another Holy Smoke! Nevada Bans Employers from Pre-Employment Marijuana TestsIt will be illegal for businesses in the state of Nevada to conduct pre-employment drug testing for marijuana beginning January 1, 2020. Assembly Bill No. 132 was just signed by the Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak on June 5th."As our legal cannabis industry continues to flourish, it's important to ensure that the door of economic opportunity remains open for all Nevadans. That's why I was proud to sign AB132 into law, which contains common-sense exceptions for public safety and transportation professionals.” Gov. Steve Sisolak said.The law does not apply to emergency technical personnel, firefighters, and operators of motor vehicles. Also, any businesses that accept federal funding will be exempt from the law due to cannabis still being a schedule 1 narcotic.New York City also passed a similar law to ban pre-employment drug testing that would begin on May 10, 2020.
